Historically, the first building in the valley intended to be used by tourists was Egid’s cottage, standing on a “Rakúska poľana”, since 1876, named after the UKS chairman for Veľká Lomnica, Egid Berzeviczy, the initiator of the building. This cottage was transferred to the northern bank of the Zelené pleso in 1880, however, already in 1882 the lone cottage was permanently damaged by the storm. After its transfer to the south bank in 1887, the cottage has stood for three years, when in 1890 was destroyed twice by fire. The need of restoration of the tourist building in this locality happened in 1895 until a new-built construction and in 1897 the cottage standing again on the north bank of the lake was rebuilt and used by visitors from 4.7.1897. It was officially opened in August 27th, 1897. The cottage was named after Archduke Friedrich Habsburg – Friedrich’s cottage. After the fall of the monarchy, it was called the Cottage at Zelené pleso until 1950, when it was renamed into Brnčal’s Cottage until 1992, when its name was changed again to the Cottage at Zelené pleso. The Zelené pleso is one of the most beautiful tarns/lakes in the Hight Tatras.
